Over 250 bird species, many rare or endangered, visit or breed here. Among them are colonies of whiskered tern and black tern, herons, swans, pelicans, kingfishers, otters, water turtles, and aquatic snakes. Whether you stroll along the perimeter trails, take a boat ride, or bird-watch from hides, the wetland offers a serene immersion in nature.

The Agra wetland is part of the NATURA 2000 network and protected under both national and EU legislation. An extraordinary high-altitude plateau formed in a volcanic crater, blending wetland, alpine meadows, rare flora and fauna, and history for adventure and deep natural peace. Located above the village of Ano Loutraki, at about 1,750 meters, Dómbro Pole (Καλή πεδιάδα) lies on the border with North Macedonia. This wild plateau spans approximately 3,350 stremmas and features a rare combination of wetland and alpine grassland ecosystems. River Moglenitsa

A serene river that carves valleys and gorges, flanked by dense forests and rich biodiversity—an invitation to exploration and peace. The Moglenitsa River winds through central Pella, crossing the plains of Almopia. It’s formed by dozens of mountain tributaries from Kaïmaktsalan, Pinovo, Jenna, and Paiko. Along its banks you’ll find wide riverbeds, lush vegetation, and impressive natural features like the ruins of an ancient bridge (“Bridge of Alexander the Great”) near Aloros and a riverside trail leading to the village of Kraniá. Trees such as plane, maple, lime, willow, alder and many others grow thickly along the shores, while up on the hills oak forests dominate. Rare and beautiful flowers dot the landscape, including wild carnations, Colchicum species, lilies, and more. The river also serves as an important migratory corridor for birds, and many species nest in high trees and small islets along the river.

Visit the Moglenitsa for hiking, bird-watching, photography or simply moments of quiet beside the flowing water. Follow dirt roads from nearby villages to reach scenic spots.
